Institutional Value vs Personal Value

“Prolegomena to the Models of Agency”:
PERSONAL VALUE
3). Entelechy (instinctual): “the regulating force of any body or organism that directs its essential functions and development.” e.g:
Nutritive: “promoting exuberant growth and vitality of all essential functions.”
Social: “of or relating to the collective welfare of society and tending toward interdependence and alliance of interests, efforts and outcomes relevant to such welfare.”
Defensive: “a state of heightened alert for the preservation of life and survival of the species, characterized by protective strategies in absence of the preemptive infliction of loss or harm upon other groups of the same species or heterogeneous species.”
INSTITUTIONAL VALUE
3). Entelechy (rational): “the regulating force of any body or organism that directs its essential function and development.” e.g:
Acquisitive: “behavior directed to the grasping, control, possession and use of resources, or strategic behaviors in support of control, possession or use of resource that includes limiting any opposing interests to control, possess or use of the same, often directly resulting in the diminution of resources to scarcity and the promotion of a frenzied intensification of such behavior characteristic of competition on the micro level and of war on the macro level of the EF.”
Divisive: “action, process or instance of creating discontinuity in the EF identifying or creating disparate or discrete objects for the purpose of grasping, controlling, possessing or use of those objects to some rationalized end.”
Offensive: “the state of heightened alert for the aggressive exploitation of vulnerabilities in the defensive strategies of any species in the EF, aiming for the capture, control or manipulation of the Agency proper and necessary to their kind in order to augment the domination of one set of specialized interests over that of differentiated others.”
Hey Durandus! I was really enjoying your contributions to Mike Smith’s SelfAwarePatterns blog and then you disappeared! No fair!
Especially since I’m interested to learn your comments about my science-based Biological Naturalism conformant theory of consciousness acronym’d as BRASH … BRAinstem Sentience Hypothesis.
So please come back into Mike’s LeDoux post where you previously commented and bring yourself up to speed by reading my loquacious commentary, including one today.
I think I picked up on a something of a poetic turn to what you wrote there … and I like it!
So Quest your Brain on back! Please?

Well, it IS not MY blog…so I don’t usually continue upon a train of thought unless commented on by the host. I don’t want to make a nuisance of myself; so I am pleased that you urge me to participate. Perhaps we may find something to discourse more. One may be pleased to hope so.

Looks like my sense of your poetic sensibilities in your SelfAwarePatterns comments were spot on! I just bought your “The Odyssey of Heart” on amazon, a new copy, rather than the $5 used offering, trusting that you’ll earn a few pazookies from the sale. Although I’ve been friends with (and married to) English majors, my own background is in computer programming and, since retiring, I’ve been contemplating Consciousness in the Block Universe … an effort motivated by Einstein’s famous Besso quote:
“Now he has departed from this strange world a little ahead of me. That means nothing. People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.”
Quite surprisingly, while being blown away by the third sentence, no one remarks about that second sentence, the “[Death] means nothing.” In my early reading of Einstein quotations I discovered a couple of other references to what he called the “eternity of life” including a quote reprinted in the N.Y. Times Einstein obituary in 1955:
“Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism. It is enough for me to contemplate the mystery of conscious life perpetuating itself through all eternity, to reflect upon the marvelous structure of the universe which we can dimly perceive, and to try humbly to comprehend even an infinitesimal part of the intelligence manifested in nature.”
And so, after more than three years I’m almost finished with the final version of my paper “Einstein’s Breadcrumbs” … his Hansel und Gretel-like trail of quotations that led me to propose the hypothesis I call the Eternal Re-experiencing of Life, or ERL.
I’m sure you’ll dislike learning that relativity physics strongly implies that our lives were computed/constructed and instantiated prior to our experiencing them and our lives have never happened … not even once! Nothing happens or has ever happened in our four-dimensional Block Universe. Instead, we eternally re-experience our lives which are fixed and unchanging constructions. A stunning blow to the Ego which I’ve discovered is most unwelcome, resulting in the usual response of vehement denial.
So it goes …
Hopefully you’ll acquire a copy of my finished paper by emailing me at erl.einstein@gmx.com (and I can reply with the attachment) or I can provide a Google drive link to “Breadcrumbs” in a comment on your blog.
Enjoy! Remember that you eternally rediscover your reaction to ERL, so I hope it’s a positive one … 😉

You shouldn’t be surprised to learn, yourself, that I hold to Archetypal Forms for the Personality, and pose the Demonic, Sacred and Sojourn Voices to implement my Analytic, a moral analytic all told, along the lines of maybe a Kantian Praxis for both Nature and the Rational Being…with Aesthetics being the orchestrator of Perception that gives rise to such a view as his own, about the Starry Heaven Above and Moral Law, Below…or as he might argue in his Critique of Judgment: the Genius of Nature.
Thanks for your invitation. I will email you for the Paper, and look forward to your elaborations, as I trust you may look forward to mine. Fine regards,
Durandus.

The cheap version of “The Odyssey” isn’t the Current Version, but one which the seller will be hard-pressed to impossible to produce, unless they claim to have it in Stock, which I very much doubt. They’ll try a Bait and Switch, then charge the buyer the 12.34 of the present, Authorized version. I saved 50 of a 2015 copy, but they’re in my bedroom closet, not for sale.

I recall that some of Einsteins favored moments for reading where with Kantian Metaphysics and Aesthetics…which may place your Breadcrumbs closer to my work than either of us, now, suspect but will discover as we proceed.
What a thrill it is for me, after so much watching to lend an ear to familiar voices here, both you and a few others on a nice treck through the wilderness paradise. My eyes are turned toward your company, and theirs, and await the favored history of theory and its resolutions, in better company that life has thus far favored me. So these are glorious days for me, and I wake in the morning in relative haste to the Barn to milk 130 cows, get there early in order to sit in the Dark and watch Orion sink upon the Horizon, a good smoke and maybe a little hang-over my sole contemplation before the Day dawns.
A true Pagan, in the end.
